Pham Thi Yen, 50, admitted during questioning by authorities that she had sold 10 banh cam (fried rice balls) at the inflated price, and said she was willing to refund the money.

Authorities also instructed her to clearly display prices and warned her not to overcharge customers, especially tourists, to help preserve the image of the capital.

The incident came to light after the tourist shared a video filmed on June 8 showing Yen approaching the tourist and offering him the rice balls, initially at VND150,000 for 10.

But after he gave her a VND500,000 note, she only returned VND70,000 before quickly walking away.

The normal price for 10 balls is around VND50,000.
