MANILA, Philippines — The Ateneo de Manila University’s Board of Trustees ordered an independent fact-finding investigation to ensure an impartial, thorough and careful review of the circumstances surrounding the deaths of student-athletes Rene Clert Baterbonia and Chukwuemeka Divine Adili.
“This inquiry will exhaustively examine the circumstances surrounding the incident, reconstruct a transparent timeline, review all athletic protocols, and interview every individual present,” the Ateneo said in a statement on Thursday.
Once completed, the findings will be submitted directly to the Board of Trustees for immediate and appropriate action, in accordance with legal requirements, due process, and the University’s duty to the affected families.
