MANILA, Philippines — Members of the private prosecution team for the impeachment trial have maintained that past political affiliations were not a factor in supporting the case against Vice President Sara Duterte, claiming that no one ordered them to help the House of Representatives contingent.

In a press briefing on Thursday, Pecabar Law’s managing partner Marforth Fua — one of the private lawyers who volunteered to help the House prosecution team — admitted that they have always been linked to the Marcoses, from the time of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s father and namesake, former president Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

However, Fua clarified that there was no one who directed them to pursue the case against Duterte, adding that they backed the impeachment out of their own volition.
