Finance minister proposes to increase financial assistance per patient to Tk 100,000

Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has proposed to double assistance for those suffering from cancer and five other diseases in the new fiscal year.
The minister said, “One-time assistance for those suffering from cancer and five other incurable diseases will be increased from Tk 50,000 to Tk 100,000.”
The government will expand the number of beneficiaries under the programme as well
The proposals seek to ease the financial burden on households struggling with rising healthcare costs
The government aims to widen healthcare access through new clinics, digital health cards and fresh recruitment
The relief applies to nine ingredients used in the production of cancer medication
The government says it is aiming to restore comfort to people’s lives by bringing down inflation and stepping up growth
The amount is Tk 3.93bn higher than the allocation for the outgoing fiscal year
