Iran’s armed forces have announced the complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz, banning the passage of all vessels, including oil tankers and cargo ships. The move comes in response to recent U.S. military strikes on targets in southern Iran.
According to Iran’s military command, the decision was driven by a sharp deterioration in the security situation following the latest American attacks. Officials stated that under the current conditions, navigation through the strategic waterway can no longer be guaranteed.
State media later reported that two vessels had come under fire, further escalating concerns over maritime security in the region.
The announcement followed statements by the United States military confirming new strikes against multiple targets in Iran, ordered by President Donald Trump. Iranian outlets also reported explosions in several port cities along the country’s southern coast.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical shipping routes, carrying a significant share of global oil exports. Its closure is expected to have serious consequences for international energy markets and global trade.
