A full list of the names of the 168 victims of Hong Kong’s deadliest fire in decades has been made public, more than six months after the inferno engulfed seven high-rise residential blocks at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po and tore apart hundreds of families.

Those who died in the blaze that broke out on November 26 last year were aged from six months to 98 years, comprising 58 male and 110 female victims. Nearly 40 per cent were 65 and above, many of whom had lived in the complex for decades.

Among those who lost their lives were a 37-year-old firefighter, 10 domestic helpers, five construction workers and two interior decorators. The remains of 164 victims were recovered from the scene while four were certified dead after being taken to hospital.

Their names were revealed in court on Wednesday as police and the city’s anti-corruption agency brought their first round of prosecutions against those deemed responsible for the tragedy, charging seven individuals and two companies with 25 offences, including manslaughter.
