Belgium says it has not received visa applications from Taliban representatives expected in Brussels this month for "technical-level" discussions
The Taliban’s planned Brussels visit has hit a bureaucratic roadblock, with Belgium still waiting for visa applications from the delegation invited by the European Commission.
The Belgian foreign affairs ministry has still not received visa applications from the Taliban delegation expected in Brussels this month for “technical-level” discussions following an invitation from the Commission, a spokesperson for the Belgian Foreign Affairs Minister Maxime Prévot told Euractiv.
“Our services have not yet received any visa applications from members of a Taliban delegation in connection with the invitation by the European Commission,” the spokesperson said.
“Such applications must be introduced by the individuals concerned themselves,” they added. The process is likely to take weeks.
