A gold jewellery shop owner who defrauded a customer by taking their gold and not issuing a loan as promised, was arrested in Kerala.In 2022, Sabia, a resident of Egmore, visited a jewellery shop in Pondy Bazaar during its inauguration and was introduced to its owner Bijo Jose. The same year Sabia who had planned to buy a house needed money and decided to mortgage 250 sovereigns of her jewellery. While Bijo Jose promised a lower rate of interest and got the jewellery from her, he never gave the money.In 2023, he absconded with the jewellery. Following this, Sabia filed a complaint with the Central Crime Branch of the Greater Chennai Police, and a case was registered in this regard with the Entrustment Document Fraud (EDF) wing. Bijo Jose, who has been absconding for the last three years, was arrested in Idukki in Kerala on Tuesday.
