A fire outbreak on Wednesday caused a brief disruption at the Senate wing of Nigeria’s National Assembly after smoke suddenly emerged from a section of Hearing Room 107, where lawmakers had just concluded the screening of Zainab Marwa, the nominee for the North-East seat on the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
The incident triggered momentary chaos among senators, legislative aides, and other officials present at the venue.
However, the situation was quickly brought under control through the swift intervention of lawmakers, preventing what could have developed into a more serious emergency within the parliamentary complex.
