Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs sources, referring to Wednesday’s meeting in Sofia between Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, said a bill linked to maritime zones “constitutes national legislation.”
“Minister Fidan reminded that the bill on maritime zones, which is currently on the agenda of the Turkish National Assembly, constitutes national legislation,” the sources noted, adding that he underlined that “Turkey is a country that respects international law and the law of good neighborliness.”
Turkey’s ruling AKP is preparing to advance legislation linked to the “Blue Homeland” (Mavi Vatan) doctrine aimed at “legally securing Turkey’s rights and interests in the Black Sea, the Mediterranean and the Aegean,” party sources have said.
According to the Turkish foreign ministry, the two ministers, who met on the sidelines of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) Summit in Sofia ahead of a July summit in Ankara, also discussed Greek-Turkish bilateral relations and regional cooperation.
