Budapest-headquartered Gedeon Richter and Hyderabad-based Hetero Labs announced on Wednesday signing of a global collaboration agreement for the joint development, registration and commercialisation of Semaglutide injection.Under the agreement, they will combine complementary strengths under a coordinated global framework with clearly defined territorial responsibilities and a balanced cost- and profit-sharing model, the companies said on the collaboration for the generic of Danish major Novo Nordisk’s Ozempic.Semaglutide is the active ingredient in Novo Nordisk’s blockbuster diabetes and weight loss drugs Wegovy and Ozempic.Hetero has already made significant development investments, including technology setup and registration batch manufacturing. Regulatory filings are underway, with the EU and US submissions planned for 2027. The collaboration leverages Hetero’s proven market reach within the U.S. and Emerging Markets, as well as Richter’s well-established commercial infrastructure across Europe and Central Asia, while maintaining optionality for future European manufacturing by Richter, the companies said.The collaboration will enable us to deliver high quality, affordable therapies to patients living with diabetes and related cardiometabolic conditions worldwide, Global Head of General Medicines at Richter Bence Kovacs said.The strategic partnership brings together deep local expertise of Hetero and Richter to broaden the global access to Semaglutide, Hetero Labs Managing Director Vamsi Krishna Bandi said.
