A woman from Uttar Pradesh's Meerut district has sought a divorce from her husband after a dispute over their honeymoon escalated into a prolonged marital conflict. The disagreement centred on the husband's decision to bring his family members along on the couple's honeymoon and later on another planned holiday.The matter eventually reached the police and was later referred to a family counselling centre after attempts at reconciliation failed.Honeymoon becomes source of disputeAccording to reports, the woman from the Ramraj area of Meerut married a man from Delhi's Patel Nagar after the match was arranged through a matrimonial website.Following their wedding last year, the couple travelled to Nainital for their honeymoon. However, the husband was accompanied by his parents, brother and sister on the trip.The wife, who had expected the honeymoon to be a private experience for the newlyweds, objected to the presence of her husband's family members. The issue led to frequent disagreements after the couple returned home.Differences over family involvementThe woman maintained that the presence of her husband's relatives prevented the couple from spending meaningful time together and getting to know each other as newlyweds.The husband, who studied hospitality management in Singapore, reportedly defended his decision and said he wanted all family members to enjoy the trip together. According to counsellors, he did not believe he had acted improperly by including them in the honeymoon plans.The disagreement deepened when the couple later planned a trip to Dubai. The wife expected the holiday to be limited to the two of them, but the husband again expressed a desire to bring his family members along.Case reaches counselling centreAs tensions intensified, the dispute reached the local police station. Officers attempted to mediate between the two sides, but no resolution could be achieved.The matter was subsequently referred to the Family Counselling Centre in the police lines, where counsellors conducted three separate sessions with the husband and wife in an effort to save the marriage.According to counsellors, both parties were heard individually and given an opportunity to present their views. During the proceedings, the couple made serious allegations against each other.No breakthrough after multiple sessionsDespite repeated efforts to resolve the dispute, neither the husband nor the wife was willing to alter their position.After three rounds of counselling failed to produce a settlement, the couple remained firm in their decision to separate, bringing reconciliation efforts to an end.
