The tournament gets underway tomorrow, with Mexico’s clash with South Africa the curtain raiser.This year’s edition also sees two home nations present, with England and Scotland both competing. The Three Lions kick off their campaign with a showdown with Croatia on June 17 in Dallas, while Scotland take on Haiti in the early hours of Sunday morning in their Group C opener.Plenty of supporters are set to take in the games throughout the country, whether that be in the pub or at home. But police have warned supporters to make sure they don’t celebrate too hard, having confirmed more officers will be out and about.Chief superintendent Gareth Wrigley said: “The World Cup is a fantastic opportunity for people to come together and enjoy the atmosphere, and the vast majority of fans do exactly that.JOIN US ON FACEBOOK! Latest news, analysis and much more on Mirror Football's Facebook page“However, a small minority can spoil things for others, particularly where alcohol and heightened emotions are involved.“We will have increased patrols in place across key town centres and busy locations during match periods, including licensed premises and any organised fan events, to help keep people safe and provide reassurance.“You will see officers out and about across the county – we are there to support communities and ensure that everyone can enjoy the tournament safely.”He added: “Alcohol and drugs have a direct impact on your ability to drive safely, slowing reaction times and impairing judgement.“If you are heading out to watch the football, where alcohol may be involved, plan ahead. Book a taxi, arrange a designated driver, or stay over.“We are not here to stop people enjoying the World Cup — we want everyone to have a good time. Our role is to ensure that the minority do not put others at risk or undermine what should be a positive occasion for communities across Cheshire.”Away from policing in the country, King Charles has already confirmed that Scotland will be getting an extra bank holiday this year. Monday, June 15, has officially been designated as a bank holiday north of the border.First Minister John Swinney said: “Scotland will be on the world stage this summer and I want as many people as possible to be able to celebrate that moment.
