SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Burnt ends over burned bridges.Osa Odighizuwa is fine now, but the initial shock and hurt feelings of being traded from the Cowboys after five seasons in Dallas didn’t wear off right away. It took his new San Francisco 49ers teammates coming through in different, understated ways after he first arrived in the South Bay.Like defensive end Mykel Williams inviting the defensive tackle over to his crib to watch the NFL Draft.“Mykel is really, really good with ribs and burnt ends and wings and stuff like that,” Odighizuwa said after a team workout last week. “Everybody welcomed me with open arms, and we just threw down at his house.”Then, linebacker Fred Warner turned him on to his Pilates guy, and Odighizuwa was ready and flexible enough to appreciate the opportunity he has to be a key piece of a team trying to build on a 12-5 season and a playoff win.“It was definitely rough at first and a little emotional because I had a lot of love for the players and coaches in that (Cowboys) building,” said Odighizuwa, who was traded just one year into a four-year, $80 million contract. “I know it’s a business … but I had never experienced that before.“But I was excited about being able to rush with Nick (Bosa) and being part of this cavalry. I look at the talent that I have around me now and just know that it’s awesome to be a part of something like this. There’s definitely a top-down mentality here of doing whatever it takes to win.”Odighizuwa, who turns 28 in August, was traded for a third-round pick after the Cowboys added defensive tackles Quinnen Williams and Kenny Clark last season. He had 3.5 sacks in 2025 and has 17 in his career, but that doesn’t tell the whole story. Odighizuwa has generated 32 pressures when double-teamed since the start of 2024, the second most in the NFL, according to Next Gen Stats. He has 46 QB hits over the past two seasons, tied for 11th most in the league and third among interior D-linemen.

Dallas traded Odighizuwa just one year into a four-year deal. "I know it's a business ... but I had never experienced that before," he said.
