A former Air Canada captain has been arrested and charged after Canadian authorities uncovered a years-long scheme in which he allegedly flew hundreds of domestic and international flights without possessing the mandatory licence required to command commercial aircraft.

The accused, Geoffrey Wall, 59, was arrested by Peel Regional Police in Ontario following a four-month investigation into allegations that he fraudulently obtained and used forged aviation credentials to work as a commercial airline captain for nearly 17 years.

Al Jazeera reports that Wall deceived both Air Canada and Canadian civil aviation regulators by presenting fraudulent pilot documentation that enabled him to command more than 900 flights between 2009 and his retirement in 2025.

Authorities said that although Wall held a valid commercial pilot licence, he did not possess an Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) — the highest level of certification required under Canadian aviation regulations for captains operating commercial passenger aircraft.
