Sea's online-shopping platform Shopee is cutting jobs, according to people familiar with the matter, trimming its workforce as the company pivots toward artificial intelligence.
The layoffs started this week and have affected the app development, product and commercialization teams, the people familiar with the matter said. Some teams were cut entirely, while others experienced staff reductions of around 10%-15%, they said.
Shopee is Southeast Asia's largest e-commerce platform and accounts for more than two-thirds of New York-listed Sea's revenue.
According to people with knowledge of the process, the adjustments aren't limited to Singapore, where Sea is based, and are still continuing.
