The Three Lions take on Costa Rica on Wednesday evening in what represents the side’s final warm-up game ahead of the tournament.‌Having already squeezed past New Zealand in Tampa, they now head to Orlando for a showdown with the Central American nation.‌READ MORE: Follow our England vs Costa Rica live blog for latest updates from the World Cup friendly‌It is their first meeting with Costa Rica since a 2-0 win against them at Elland Road in 2018. But this one certainly takes on more significance for England as they attempt to round off their preparations for the World Cup.So, what questions does boss Tuchel need to answer in that game? Mirror Football takes a trip into the mind of the German coach.Get the latest World Cup 2026 news in your inbox with our Make Football Great Again newsletter‌How strong do you go?Tuchel is certainly faced with a dilemma over his side against Costa Rica. He could either go as strong as possible and really nail down the tactics and approach that the side will take in their group opener against Croatia. The only issue with that is that he is running the risk of some of his key players picking up injuries, or indeed not being as fresh as needed for the start of the World Cup.Or Tuchel could do similar to what he did against New Zealand by mixing up the side entirely - and fielding a completely different team in the second-half in order to give every player the chance to take to the pitch and adapt to the conditions.‌Does Kane start? On a similar theme, Tuchel has a decision to make when it comes to Harry Kane’s participation in the game. It goes without saying that England’s chances of lifting the World Cup will drop dramatically should the Bayern Munich forward pick up an injury. And he would be running the risk of exactly that happening should he play against Costa Rica. A cameo off the bench might be the way to go for the England captain but Kane will surely be keen on playing the full 90 minutes.Nevertheless, England need to show they are not over reliant on their skipper's goals - and tonight would be a good place to start.‌How important is the result? Most will argue that a win against Costa Rica will not be the be-all and end-all. And they’d be spot on.Regardless of which way the game goes, the result will have no bearing on the Three Lions’ chances of glory in the USA. But a defeat could dent confidence slightly and just give the dressing room cause for concern that their preparations aren’t quite as water tight as they first thought.‌Meanwhile, a win would give them real momentum heading into the group stages. Tuchel of course will be keen to win the game anyway but it just depends on what message he relays to his players ahead of the game itself.Who partners Guehi?Looking at the squad, Tuchel might still have a call to make over who wants to see start the first game against Croatia, particularly in defence. Manchester City star Marc Guehi appears to have one slot secured so the question remains over who will be joining him.John Stones is an option but his fitness could count him out of being slotted into the starting XI. That would leave Jarell Quansah and Ezri Konsa as the outstanding candidates to partner Guehi at the heart of defence, while Dan Burn is also an option.‌It was Stones that was selected against New Zealand, though, so that might be the direction that Tuchel goes in once again. What does your midfield look like?England boss Tuchel has been very strong in his message before the World Cup that Jude Bellingham is not guaranteed of his position. That would be unfathomable given how key the Real Madrid superstar has been in the past.‌After all, he’s still one of the best midfielders in world football. If he is indeed out of the side, Tuchel needs to decide what his midfield looks like.Declan Rice looks set to be an undoubted starter following his stand-out season for Arsenal, while Elliot Anderson and Kobbie Mainoo have decent arguments of being included in the XI. The obvious replacement for Bellingham however is Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers - or alternatively Arsenal’s Eberechi Eze.Tuchel certainly has talent in his squad should he drop Bellingham but whether he actually follows through with that or not, remains to be seen.Article continues belowContent cannot be displayed without consentJoin our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
