Wednesday, 10 Jun 2026 1:13 PM MYT KUALA LUMPUR, June 10 — Sixteen foreign nationals were detained, and goods belonging to 22 unlicensed traders were seized during an integrated enforcement operation around Pudu Market in Jalan Yew here yesterday.In a Facebook post, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) said the operation, which began at 6am, was carried out in collaboration with the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM), targeting the sale of fresh produce, vegetables and fruits by foreign nationals operating without authorisation and in breach of their work permit conditions.“Enforcement action was taken against 22 unlicensed traders, comprising 13 foreign nationals and nine Malaysians. Their goods were seized and removed for conducting business without a licence and obstructing public spaces.“We also issued compound notices to owners of unauthorised stalls under the Hawkers Licensing By-Laws (Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur) 2016 and the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974,” it said.Meanwhile, immigration officers screened a total of 62 migrants from Bangladesh, Indonesia and Myanmar during the operation, 16 of whom were detained for allegedly being in the country without valid passes, permits or travel documents.All detainees were taken to the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Depot for further action. — Bernama
