According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, the attack occurred at about 11am on Tuesday when a large number of bandits reportedly stormed the communities with sophisticated weapons, including RPGs, GPMGs, anti-aircraft guns and AK-47 rifles.
The Zamfara State Police Command has said that a joint security team neutralised six suspected bandits and repelled a large-scale attack on Kanoma Town and Gidan Daji Village in Maru Local Government Area of the state.

The police said operatives from the Maru Division, military personnel attached to Operation Fansar Yamma, officers of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), and local vigilantes were mobilised after receiving a distress call.
