The demonstration, led by a dissident faction of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE), came amid a week-long wave of protests that have rattled the Mexican capital just days before the world's biggest football tournament officially begins.
AFP reports that authorities deployed thousands of police officers and erected concrete barriers around the stadium to prevent protesters from reaching the facility.
The demonstrators, however, occupied nearby roads and staged a rally for approximately three hours before dispersing.
