As the long, hot summer gets underway in California, the first wildfires of the season are beginning to attract significant public attention. Within the last month, dozens of blazes have erupted, and in Los Angeles alone, more than 30 thousand people were forced from their homes when one fire struck hillsides north of the city.

Following last year’s Palisades Fire that killed 12 people, destroyed vast areas of Pacific Palisades and Malibu and erased more than 6,800 buildings from the landscape, the state is understandably on edge over what might follow in the months ahead.
