The Medical City South Luzon (TMCSL) introduces MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry, becoming the first hospital in the region to offer this technology. MALDI-TOF gives physicians a faster, more precise tool for identifying bacteria and fungi, enabling earlier and more targeted treatment for patients with suspected infections.

The service brings to Laguna a diagnostic capability previously available only in select tertiary centers in Metro Manila, making specialist-level infectious disease testing more accessible to patients in the region.

Faster Diagnosis, Better Outcomes

Traditional microbial identification relies on culture and manual biochemical testing, which may require 24–72 hours or longer before yielding actionable results. MALDI-TOF, by contrast, uses a proteomic-based method that rapidly analyzes a microorganism’s protein profile and matches it to a reference database, allowing identification within minutes once a colony is available.
