Dushyant Savadia, founder and chief executive of the Amber Group, a technology company, has been appointed chairman of the Jamaica Special Economic Zone Authority (JSEZA).The authority announced the appointment on its Instagram page on Monday, describing Savadia as bringing "a forward-looking vision that aligns with JSEZA's commitment to driving investment, innovation and sustainable economic growth."“We look forward to working together to strengthen Jamaica's position as a premier destination for business and investment,” the agency added. JSEZA is the state body responsible for regulating and developing Jamaica's special economic zones, which are designated areas offering fiscal and regulatory incentives, such as lower corporate taxes, to attract foreign and domestic investment. In May 2023, Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness appointed Savadia Ambassador and Special Investment Envoy for Technology, one of four such envoys named at the time to drive economic growth. He has also served on several other government boards.Savadia founded the Amber Group in Jamaica in 2015. Amber Connect, one of its first companies, provides AI-powered vehicle tracking, security and fleet management solutions. His company also has a relationswhip with the state’s training agency, the HEART/NSTA Trust, That partnership is named the Amber HEART Academy, which was established to provide skills training in cybersecurity, data analytics, mobile and web application development to unattached Jamaican youth. The JSEZA falls under the portfolio of the Aubyn Hill-led Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce.In February 2021, the Amber Group faced scrutiny after it emerged that the JamCOVID website it developed for the Government to manage pandemic-related travel had exposed some travellers’ personal information.
