Conservative pundit Ben Shapiro really wants the New York Knicks to lose Game 4 of the NBA Finals, if only to defend President Donald Trump’s honor. The Knicks had a two-game lead over the San Antonio Spurs before losing 115-111 Monday night at Madison Square Garden, a game attended by both the president and New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani.Naturally, there were jokes and allegations that Trump’s presence jinxed the Knicks, whose last championship was in 1973 and whose last Finals appearance was 1999.However, Shapiro came to the president’s defense on his show Tuesday by suggesting the Knicks need to lose Game 4 on Wednesday night.“I think that the Knicks lost last night because President Trump showed up. And you know why that happened? Because President Trump loves America. That’s why he went,” Shapiro said. “He went so that they would lose because it is imperative that the Knicks lose.”Although both Trump and Mamdani are Knicks fans, Shapiro said somewhat cheekily that a Game 4 loss “is imperative because Zohran Mamdani cannot be allowed to be happy.”He continued:“America only wins if the Knicks lose. I’m sorry, Knicks fans. I’m sorry, long time Knicks fans, especially the ones who didn’t vote for Mamdani, but you brought this upon yourself.”Shapiro then hyperbolically claimed that “the justice of the divine will only be served if the Knicks lose, and especially if they lose a 2-0 lead after winning a couple on the road in San Antonio.”To his way of thinking, a Game 4 loss for the Knicks is “the only way that justice — cosmic justice will be performed here,” and added that if the president “was a tool in that cosmic justice, then I’m all for it. The president may have just saved America, I guess, is what I’m saying right now.”
