The energy transition is often framed as a challenge of building more, but what if a significant part of the solution lies in using existing infrastructure far more intelligently? One company looking to do just that is Kraken, the utility technology platform spun out of the UK's Octopus Energy. Kraken processes billions of data points each day using artificial intelligence, helping utilities in several European countries, as well as Australia Japan the US and Canada, CEO Amir Orad explained in a recent interview with Energy Intelligence. Orad argues that energy systems are moving from a centralized model toward a more decentralized and flexible architecture, where managing demand becomes just as important as supplying power, and flexibility may become one of the defining features of future energy systems. An edited transcript of that interview follows.
