Health Minister K.G. Arunraj on Tuesday inspected the Tamil Nadu Government Multi Super Speciality Hospital (TNGMSSH) and issued directions to establish a food court in the hospital at the earliest for the benefit of patients.The Minister also held discussions on identifying unused spaces within the sprawling hospital complex to develop facilities useful for the public. He issued instructions to ensure that the hospital washrooms are maintained and directed the Public Works Department to provide adequate exhaust facilities.Orders were also issued to verify the attendance of sanitation workers on a daily basis. He also advised the hospital authorities to keep the staircases and unused spaces under them clean and free from accumulation of waste. The maintenance of elevators was also reviewed.Certain lapses were observed during the inspection which included stench emanating from a common toilet, the toilet cleaning checklist not being signed after 7 a.m., and poor maintenance of staircases.Following this, the Director of TNGMSSH sought an explanation from the manager of the facility management company regarding lapses in routine work within three days of the letter.
