A Texas jury reached a guilty verdict Tuesday in the trial of Karmelo Anthony. The 19-year-old is convicted of murder in the fatal stabbing of another teenager, Austin Metcalf, 17, according to AP News.

Anthony faced a first-degree murder charge for the Frisco, Texas, stabbing on April 2, 2025. Anthony said he acted in self-defense during a track meet.

Several students testified that Metcalf told Anthony multiple times to leave his team’s tent. Metcalf attended Memorial High School, where Anthony was not a student.

Anthony then reached into a bag and pulled out a knife.

The case gained national attention partly from social media posts highlighting the racial backgrounds of the people involved. Anthony is a black student, and Metcalf was white.
