RIYADH: Mahd Sports Academy on Tuesday unveiled a series of stadium and facility names inspired by landmark moments in Saudi sporting history, in a move it said will link the Kingdom’s past achievements with its future ambitions.

The initiative is designed to celebrate some of Saudi Arabia’s most significant sporting successes while inspiring young athletes training at the academy.

Among the newly named venues is “Stadium 84,” commemorating Saudi Arabia’s first AFC Asian Cup triumph in 1984. “Stadium 88” and “Stadium 96” mark the national team’s subsequent Asian Cup victories in 1988 and 1996.

The academy has also introduced “Stadium 89,” honoring the Saudi U-16 national team’s victory at the 1989 FIFA U-16 World Championship, one of the country’s most notable achievements in youth football.

In athletics, the academy named its main track after Saudi runner Hadi Soua'an, who won silver in the 400-meter hurdles at the 2000 Summer Olympics, becoming the first Saudi athlete to claim an Olympic medal in track and field.
