Cannabis use among Greek teenagers has reached its highest level in 25 years, with 11.5% of 16-year-olds reporting use, according to new research by Greece’s National Documentation Center for the EU Drugs Agency, released as part of the European Drug Report 2026.

Treatment admissions related to cannabis have risen 32% over the past decade, while those for cocaine and other stimulants have surged 106% in five years and 256% over 10 years – with cocaine disproportionately concentrated in Greater Athens.

Semi-synthetic cannabinoids are also gaining ground: 44% of recent cannabis users aged 16 reported using HHC, and authorities recorded multiple seizures in 2025 of vapes containing such substances.

Used-syringe analysis in Athens, Thessaloniki, Patra and Volos revealed widespread polydrug use, combining heroin and cocaine alongside pharmaceuticals.
