A team of the criminal investigation department on Tuesday conducted search operations at Trinamool Congress office located within the premises of former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee's residence in Kalighat in connection with a case filed after several Trinamool MLAs alleged that their signatures were forged and submitted to the West Bengal assembly. Another CID team carried out searches at Trinamool national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee's office on Camac Street.Meanwhile, Abhishek, who skipped the third summons issued by CID, moved the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday. In a letter to CID, he informed the agency that he was in New Delhi and had approached HC, which was why he could not appear before investigators.CID team was initially prevented from entering the premises by former Trinamool MP Subhashish Chakraborty. CID officials later entered the premises accompanied by CRPF personnel. Trinamool Lok Sabha MP Kalyan Banerjee, who reached Mamata's residence during the search operation, said, "West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari has sent CID as Mamata Banerjee is in New Delhi. Adhikari is a vindictive CM who has been arresting people, maligning and harassing Mamata Banerjee. He is arrogant and autocratic. Today, West Bengal is an undemocratic state. The CID team had come to search the resolution on Leader of the Opposition, which was held at 30B Chatterjee Street. Abhishek was asked to appear before CID with the resolution. These actions are contradictory."Rajya Sabha MP Derek O'Brien, in a post on X, said: "Political vendetta shamelessly timed! EXACTLY AT THE SAME TIME as @AITCofficial chairperson @MamataOfficial was having a meeting today in Delhi with Mrs Sonia Gandhi, CID was forcefully trying to enter the AITC party headquarters adjoining her residence in Kolkata. First loot vote, now loot files of a political rival. Democracy? Main entrance is overloaded with CRPF."
