The union representing over 2,000 workers has struck a tentative agreement with the stadium operators at SoFi Stadium, having previously secured authorization for a strike last week. The high-stake negotiations by the union have earned a 40 per cent increase in pay for attendants at concessions stands, as well as a clause in the agreement that permits workers to walk off the job if the union believes that the presence of federal agents, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), creates a “reasonable apprehension of harm to the safety and security of workers.”The venue will host the U.S. men’s national team’s opening World Cup match against Paraguay, which will be played at the venue near Los Angeles on Friday night, and will be one of eight World Cup matches at the stadium. The venue is the home of the NFL’s two Los Angeles teams, the Chargers and the Rams. It is owned by Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, who also own Premier League champions Arsenal.UNITE HERE Local 11 is the union which represents workers at the venue who largely work in food and beverage concessions, including cooks, dishwashers, servers and bartenders. Negotiations with the stadium operators, Legends Global, were broken off last week after multiple bargaining sessions failed to reach an agreement. The existing deal between the union and Legends had already ceased. However, a deal has now been reached, subject to ratification from workers on Wednesday, which brings the dispute to a close.
