Seplat Energy Plc has announced major leadership changes, with billionaire investor and philanthropist Tony O. Elumelu set to become Chairman of the Board in 2027, in a transition that underscores the company’s next phase of expansion and governance continuity.
The announcement also confirms the planned retirement of Chief Executive Officer Roger Brown on July 31, 2026, following what the company described as a transformational tenure marked by aggressive growth, strategic acquisitions and operational expansion across Africa’s energy sector.
In a statement released on Monday, Seplat Energy said the changes are aimed at strengthening leadership continuity while accelerating execution of its long-term 2030 strategic roadmap.
Under Brown’s leadership, Seplat expanded significantly through landmark deals including the acquisition of Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited (MPNU) in 2024 and Eland Oil and Gas in 2019, positioning the company as one of Africa’s leading independent energy producers.
