Channel 4 is set to air Jon Snow: A Last Big Story, a new documentary following the veteran journalist as he navigates his Alzheimer's diagnosis while embarking on one final investigative mission17:56, 09 Jun 2026Channel 4 is preparing to air a new documentary following renowned journalist Jon Snow as he comes to terms with his recent Alzheimer's diagnosis while undertaking one final investigative assignment. The documentary offers an intimate glimpse into the life of one of Britain's most esteemed broadcasters as he faces his life-changing diagnosis. Together with his wife, Dr Precious Lunga, Snow tackles his Alzheimer's diagnosis with typical honesty, leveraging his profile to transform public understanding of dementia while emphasising the vital importance of early diagnosis and robust support networks. The moving film, Jon Snow: A Last Big Story, which is due to broadcast on Saturday, June 20, documents his unwavering quest for justice on behalf of a Zambian community ravaged by a mining catastrophe, demonstrating his steadfast dedication to journalism despite confronting substantial personal health obstacles.Discussing his diagnosis in the film, Jon said: "At the beginning I wanted to hide it, there's so much prejudice. Any sort of hint of mental decay, you're sort of dead."There are moments when it pops up but it's not an all day, every day condition, and that's what I cling onto. I've witnessed a great deal, I hope I've learned something but I've still got a huge amount to learn. We all have. There's still more to do." A documentary designed to share Jon's condition with the public, but while on safari at Victoria Falls Jon learns of a catastrophic mining disaster that has garnered almost no media attention. With Precious' backing, Jon takes on one final major story, reports the Express.Throughout the span of a year, working with his friend and former colleague Ben de Pear and supported by a remarkable team of Zambian activists, Jon exposes one of the most devastating mining and ecological catastrophes of recent times and launches a campaign to secure justice for the overlooked victims.Snow stands as one of the most highly regarded and instantly recognisable British broadcasters of his era. His three decades at Channel 4 News from 1989 to 2021 saw him travel globally to cover stories including the fall of the Berlin Wall, Nelson Mandela's release and Barack Obama's inauguration.Louisa Compton, Head of News, Current Affairs, Specialist Factual and Sport at Channel 4 said: "Jon Snow is not just one of Channel 4's most recognisable faces - he is part of our very fabric and is dearly loved by viewers around the UK."It is a profound privilege that we are able to document his last big investigation, in a sensitively made film that frames Jon's current affairs nous alongside a new life lived with Alzheimer's. We hope this film will go a long way to raise awareness of how to live whilst facing a life-changing diagnosis." Executive Producer Ben de Pear commented: "It was lovely being back on the road again with Jon and we are all very proud of this film which not only captures the essence of the man and the journalist, but also how he wants to change the stigma around this disease."Director Laura Warner remarked: "We wanted to make a film that gave Jon as much agency as possible - that was respectful to both his legacy and gave him a vehicle to discuss his diagnosis. What we ended up with is a film that demonstrates his inimitable thirst for a good story, and his ability to speak truth to power."Michelle Dyson CB, Chief Executive of Alzheimer's Society, stated: "Jon's decision to talk publicly about his dementia diagnosis is a real act of courage and his story will resonate with so many. His support for Alzheimer's Society will help spark a national conversation about dementia that we so desperately need. Despite being the UK's biggest killer, dementia is still not treated with the same urgency as other major health conditions like cancer."Alongside his wife Precious, Jon is shining a light on the need for faster, fairer access to diagnosis. An early diagnosis can unlock vital support, help families plan ahead and potentially open the door to participation in clinical trials. Yet too many people across the country are still waiting far too long for a diagnosis."Article continues belowJon Snow: A Last Big Story airs on Saturday, June 20 at 8pm
