Amupitan said the absence of a coordinated electoral timetable would create uncertainty and undermine INEC's constitutional responsibility to organise elections.

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan, has explained why the commission appealed two recent Federal High Court judgments that questioned aspects of its timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election.

Amupitan said the absence of a coordinated electoral timetable would create uncertainty and undermine INEC's constitutional responsibility to organise elections.

The INEC chairman made the remarks on Tuesday during his opening address at the Second Quarterly Consultative Meeting with Leaders of Political Parties held at the commission's headquarters in Abuja.

According to him, one of the cases, Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/517/2026, Youth Party v. INEC, delivered on May 20, 2026, questioned certain timelines contained in the commission's electoral timetable.
