The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said Monday (8) that MRI scans showed "good progress" in Neymar’s treatment, but avoided setting a timeline for the player’s recovery. The forward remains under treatment for a grade 2 muscle injury in his right calf, identified after he joined Brazil’s national team for the 2026 World Cup.Maintaining the initial two-week recovery estimate, Neymar could be cleared to play Brazil’s second match, against Haiti, on June 19. The team makes its tournament debut on Saturday (13) against Morocco.
At 34, the player is attempting to compete in his fourth World Cup. Neymar has not played for the national team since October 2023 and has never played under Carlo Ancelotti, sparking a lengthy debate over his call-up.
The injury caused discomfort within the CBF and the coaching staff, as it became clear that the player and Santos had not been transparent about the severity of the issue, which occurred on May 17. Brazil team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar had previously indicated a three-week recovery period.
