The Sulur police on Tuesday arrested a man from Pallapalayam on charge of possessing prohibited firecrackers and raw materials.V. Saravanakumar (42) of Pasumpon Nagar at Pallapalayam was arrested from his residence. The police searched Saravanakumar’s residence based on specific information on Tuesday noon and found prohibited firecrackers and sulphur stored inside.As per preliminary investigation findings, Saravanakumar was employed in a fireworks shop at Sathyamangalam. It is alleged that he had clandestinely brought certain fireworks and raw materials from the shop and stored them in his residence.The investigators also found that he had been manufacturing modified and prohibited firecrackers and selling them for use during temple festivals and other special occasions. His activities were endangering public safety and violating the provisions relating to the manufacture and sale of explosive substances, said the police, who registered a case against Saravanakumar and arrested him.
