The conversation turned to the California primary election, where they are still counting ballots. He suggested, as he did with the 2020 election, that the election was rigged. Welker pointed out he had no evidence."You're either crooked or you're stupid," Trump said as she pressed him on lacking evidence and tried to change the subject. "Your elections are crooked and you're crooked, and 'Meet the Press' is crooked ... You're a one-sided, crooked network. Sorry. Let's call it quits because I've had enough. Thank you, darling. Have a good time."Trump removed the microphone attached to his jacket, and as Welker pleaded with him, he complained about the rain. Before the public saw him walk out when the interview aired on June 7, Trump said the rain was what ignited his outburst.Trump addresses why he got angry in the 'Meet the Press' interviewTrump and Welker met in a barn where the rain on the metal roof was loud enough to disrupt the interview. Speaking at the roundtable afterward, he said this was why he got angry."I just did an interview in the most beautiful barn I've ever seen," Trump said on June 5. "It was a beauty, but it was raining. And it was with NBC fake news. And because it was raining, I got a little bit angry at them. I was not happy with them. But we had a good time."Trump has also lashed out at reporters when pressed on some issues, including telling one reporter, "quiet, piggy," and calling another "a terrible reporter," when he was pressed on the Jeffrey Epstein files.Trump and Welker spoke the following day about the rain disrupting the interview, she said at the end of her Sunday segment from the show's Washington studio, adding that he agreed to come back for a "Meet the Press" interview.Watch the Kristen Welker, Trump interview on YouTubeContributing: Hope Karnopp, Joey Garrison, Jay Stahl, USA TODAY NetworkKinsey Crowley is the Trump Connect reporter for the USA TODAY Network.
