The district administration has been geared up to meet any exigencies during the monsoon season, Minister for Minorities Welfare A.M.Shajahan said here on Tuesday.Chairing a meeting with officials to review the monsoon preparedness in the district, Mr.Shajahan said officers in the rank of sub-collectors have been designated as nodal officers at the taluk level to carry out precautionary and rescue operations during the monsoon period.Three inter-departmental teams, comprising officials of all government departments, have been constituted for each taluk for carrying out search and rescue and organise and shelter and maintenance of people who may be affected during the monsoon season.Sixty-eight places have been identified as vulnerable for floods in the district and six multi-purpose shelters, 12 cyclone shelters , 100 community halls, 73 marriage halls and over 160 educational institutions have been identified for accommodating affected people during emergencies.Twenty-nine early warning systems were functional in the district, he said.The Minister said that necessary men and machines have been kept ready to handle exigencies in the district. About 90 members of the Tamil Nadu Disaster Response Force, 5,000 trained first responders and about 900 volunteers would be in a state of readiness, Mr.Shajahan said.V.Selvaraj, MP, M.H.Jawahirullah and T.Latha, MLAs, K.J.Praveen Kumar, Collector, and other officials participated.
