Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon intensified on Tuesday, striking the city of Tyre shortly after evacuation warnings were issued for parts of the area, including its Christian quarter. Lebanese officials said at least eight people were killed in one of the attacks, as emergency crews continued searching through damaged residential zones.
The escalation came despite mounting diplomatic pressure from the United States. President Donald Trump said he had urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to halt further strikes, while also claiming that Washington was close to finalizing a deal with Iran within “two or three days.” He added that the agreement would ensure Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons and would allow the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz “immediately” after signing.
On the ground in southern Lebanon, residents reported chaotic evacuations as Israeli forces expanded their warnings. Local authorities said the displacement order covered wider parts of Tyre than previous notices, prompting civilians, including families in areas that had previously been spared, to flee overnight.
Iran responded by warning that fighting could resume if Israeli operations in Lebanon continue, particularly around Beirut and Hezbollah-linked areas. Iranian officials reiterated their support for Lebanon and Hezbollah, framing their position as a commitment to regional allies and a warning against further escalation.
