“In times of scarcity, you find creative ways to express yourself,” says Manoj Bajpayee, joining the huge number of people having an opinion about the latest sensation, Obsession. The veteran actor sees the monstrous hit psychological thriller as a hope for independent cinema, a format he has always supported.“In India, there are no funders and mentors for independent movies. Every indie filmmaker faces the struggle of exhibiting their work,” he adds. “That said, the young generation is well-equipped with technology. They are making short fictions on reels. Look at Obsession, it’s the best example to not lose hope in independent cinema.”Bajpayee is gearing up for the release of Governor, a theatrical film based on India’s financial crisis in the early 1990s. He plays S Venkitaramanan, the former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India who battled national bankruptcy to rescue the country’s economy. Set to release on June 12, the Hindi movie is directed by Chinmay D Mandlekar.
