A Federal High Court in Lagos has remanded Paul Jibrin Oweleke, operator of Oweleke TV, in custody after he was arraigned by the Department of State Services (DSS) over allegations that he called on the military to overthrow the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Oweleke was arraigned yesterday before Justice Akintoye Aluko on a two-count charge bordering on alleged cybercrime offences, including making subversive broadcasts and transmitting messages said to threaten the president and undermine public order.
According to the charge, the defendant allegedly used his social media platform, “Oweleke TV,” to disseminate messages calling for a military coup to remove President Tinubu and replicate the political situation in Burkina Faso through unconstitutional means.
