Additional teams have been deployed to restore power in areas including Perambur and Villivakkam, said C.T.R. Nirmalkumar, Minister for Energy Resources and Law, amid reports of power outages in several parts of Chennai on Monday (June 8, 2026) night and Tuesday (June 9) morning.Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the Green Power 2026 conference on Tuesday, Mr. Nirmalkumar said: “We sent three additional teams with 20 employees each to Perambur and Villivakkam on Monday. We have begun night rounds to restore power supply.”The Minister alleged that some persons were instigating local residents to launch protests even after the power supply was restored. “In Perambur, power was restored in 40 minutes. But some people instigated the residents to stage a protest. We have identified those responsible for the disruption of power and have initated action against them based on CCTV footage.”He further said: “We request the residents to cooperate with the officials to identify those responsible for the disruption of power supply.” Published - June 09, 2026 03:00 pm IST
