Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will be buried after Ashura, following the first 10 days of Muharram later this month.
The 10th of Muharram, Ashura, commemorates Imam Hussein bin Ali’s death at Karbala in 680AD.
He was killed in US-Israeli strikes on Tehran on February 28, the opening salvo of the war.
Leadership passed to his son, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, who has not appeared publicly and is believed injured.
