According to the Health Ministry, seven members of a Palestinian Red Crescent ambulance crew were detained while carrying out humanitarian duties on Gaza's key artery, Salah al-Din road. Five of the crew members were later released, the statement said. According to local reports, Israeli-backed militias set up checkpoints along Salah al-Din road near the Gaza River Bridge. The militants also detained civilians, the reports said. In April, Haaretz reported that armed militias in the Gaza Strip, backed by Israel, have stepped up their efforts and issued belligerent statements aimed at positioning the groups as an alternative to Hamas.
