Sydney, India's Saneeth Dayanand advanced to the men's singles main draw of the Australian Open badminton tournament after winning his qualifying matches here on Tuesday.Dayanand, seeded fourth in the qualifying rounds, first eased past local hope Karono 21-17 21-15 before logging a 21-9 21-16 victory over Malaysia's Ming Hong Lim to make the cut.He will face China's Hu Zhe An in his opening main draw game.However, Manraj Singh lost his second qualification match, to Malaysia's Eogene Ewe 11-21 18-21, to bow out of the competition.In the men's doubles main draw, it was curtains for the Indian pair of Achutaditya Rao and P Arjun Reddy after they went down to the Australian combination of Kanki Igawa and Ooi Yi Hern 15-21 15-21 in their opening game.The tournament's main singles competition will get underway on Wednesday where India's challenge would be spearheaded by two-time Olympic medallist P V Sindhu.Sindhu, seeded third, will open against Peru's Ines Lucia Castillo and is likely to face the winner of the first-round clash between fellow Indian Isharani Barua and China's Han Qian Xi.India has a sizeable presence in the women's singles draw as Tanvi Sharma faces fifth-seeded Chiu Pin-Chian of Chinese Taipei, while Malvika Bansod takes on Malaysia's Goh Jin Wei.Anmol Kharb has been handed a tough opener against former world champion and fourth seed Nozomi Okuhara of Japan.Aakarshi Kashyap will be up against Malaysia's Wong Ling Ching, while Tanya Hemanth will square off against USA's Ishika Jaiswal.
