More than 100 delegates from across the country participated in Vision Beyond Sight 2026, a conference organised by Vision-Aid Foundation Services Society (Vision-Aid India) in Chennai on Monday (June 8, 2026), to discuss ways to strengthen support systems and opportunities for persons with vision loss.The conference was inaugurated by P. Vijayalakshmi, Head of Low Vision Rehabilitation Services and Consultant Paediatric Ophthalmologist, Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai. Delivering the keynote address on ‘Care Beyond Cure’, she highlighted the importance of extending support beyond medical treatment to include rehabilitation, education, assistive technology, family support, and community participation.Conducted under the theme ‘Building Collaborative and Inclusive Ecosystems for Low Vision Care, Rehabilitation, and Inclusive Education’, the conference brought together representatives from eye care institutions, schools for the visually impaired, rehabilitation centres, corporate organisations, non-profit groups, and disability inclusion networks.Experts from Aravind Eye Hospital, L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, Christian Medical College, Vellore, Sankara Nethralaya, IIT Delhi, and SHG Technologies delivered presentations and participated in panel discussions and technology demonstrations on eye care, rehabilitation, accessibility, and inclusive education.The conference also facilitated discussions on strengthening partnerships among stakeholders to improve access to education, healthcare, employment, and independent living opportunities.
