20th Century Studios has unveiled the first trailer for The Dog Stars, offering audiences a closer look at Ridley Scott’s return to science fiction with a post-apocalyptic survival story led by Jacob Elordi.Based on Peter Heller’s bestselling 2012 novel, the film follows Hig, a civilian pilot portrayed by Elordi, who survives a devastating pandemic that has wiped out much of humanity. Living in isolation at a remote Colorado airfield, Hig shares a fragile existence with his loyal dog and Bangley, a former Marine played by Josh Brolin. The trailer paints a bleak picture of a shattered America filled with abandoned settlements, armed raiders, and desperate survivors. Amid the devastation, Hig intercepts a mysterious radio transmission that convinces him there may still be hope beyond the boundaries of his carefully maintained refuge. His decision to investigate the signal sets him on a dangerous journey across a hostile landscape.Alongside Elordi and Brolin, the film stars Margaret Qualley as medic Cima, with Guy Pearce, Benedict Wong, and Allison Janney rounding out the ensemble cast. The project marks Scott’s first major venture into sci-fi since Alien: Covenant. The filmmaker has remained remarkably prolific in recent years, directing The Last Duel, House of Gucci, Napoleon, and Gladiator II in quick succession.Screenwriter Mark L. Smith, whose previous credits include The Revenant and Twisters, adapted the novel for the screen. Cinematography is handled by Erik Messerschmidt, while longtime Scott collaborator Harry Gregson-Williams composed the score. The Dog Stars arrives in theatres on August 28.
