The vibrant spirit and resilience of the Phoenix community was captured in a painting which was auctioned for R50,000 at the weekend.

The painting, donated by Nanda Soobben, an award-winning cartoonist and illustrator, was sold during the auction at the Phoenix Charity Fair on Saturday.

It was purchased by Vivian Reddy, a businessman and philanthropist and the founder and chairman of the Sibaya Community Trust.

The Phoenix Child Welfare hosted its annual flagship fundraising event from May 29 to June 7, coinciding with the Phoenix community's 50th-anniversary celebrations.
