Flight cancellations by airlines due to fuel price increases will usually be classed as operational.
Don't count on insurance to help if your flight is cancelled because of fuel shortages, the Insurance and Financial Services Ombudsman says.
Airlines have been changing their schedules after the cost of fuel jumped.
In one case the ombudsman's office dealt with recently, a family's flights home from the UK were cancelled because of "operational requirements". They received a refund for their booking but had to buy replacement flights with another airline at a higher cost and tried to claim the difference.
