Britain is in trouble. More than one million young people aged 16-24 are not in Education, Employment or Training (NEETS).

All kinds of reasons – and remedies – have been suggested. Tax increases and counter-productive attempts to boost employee rights are part of the problem, but we ought to look at deeper issues including de-industrialisation and the rise of AI.

I am a technologist who has worked across many industries. In my career I have served as Chief Technology Officer of Rolls-Royce, spent time working in Government and now I am growing a UK start-up.

My experience has taught me the importance of re-industrialisation and the hope and purpose it could bring to the next generation.

At the Christopher Nieper Foundation, where I am a trustee, we’re passionate about doing what we can for NEETS.
